There is nothing more enjoyable than mid-year when new data comes out, and we can update the list. You don’t often see major changes in the top 10 richest rappers worldwide.

It’s usually the same players, with their net worth shifting a little based on investments. We include every data source we can find, regardless of how the results turn out. Although it may not be 100% accurate, it is pretty close.

As you read, you will notice a few things that you might find inspiring for your next rapper:

  • You can become extremely rich as a rapper/hip-hop artist.
  • You can become more popular and earn more money.

It’s hard work and often it’s not about skills, but about making connections. There are many spitters who can rhyme for decades but never make it big. However, those that have the potential to break through will be able to join the top 10 richest rappers worldwide…

#10 – Ice Cube

2 – O’Shea Jackson has been in the game as long as Dr. Dre, starting in the same group called N.W.A. After a long and successful solo career that included 10 albums, O’Shea Jackson ventured into Hollywood movies and television. He starred in classic urban movies, comedies and even children’s movies.

As a member the Westside Connection, Jackson’s music career was not interrupted. Jackson is an entrepreneur and owns Solo by Cube clothing line. He also runs Big3, a 3-on-3 basketball league. Jackson still collects music and movie awards.

Trivia: O’Shea was threatened by his older brother that he would “slam into a freezer” and only be pulled out when he was an “ice cube”. Del the Funky Homosapien is his cousin. He started writing rhymes when he was 9 years old and sold his first song at 16, to later N.W.A. group member Eazy-E.

#9 – Lil Wayne

1 – Weezy was doing just fine as a Cash Money rap artist, but once he broke off from Birdman (also on this list!) His own label Young Money was born. He was a Hot Boy member and became the Hottest Act on Cash Money after Juvenile left.

He was also the guy to go to for guest appearances, earning him tons of royalties. He is the first male artist to surpass Elvis Presley in terms of the number of Billboard Hot 100 singles, with 109 total. He has earned his place as one of the most successful artists of all-time and that position will only continue to grow as he launches superstars like Drake or Nicki Minaj.

Trivia Fact Dwayne is his real name, but he dropped the “D” out of dissatisfaction with his absentee father. Wayne was 12 years old when he received a gunshot wound to his chest. He later revealed that it was self-harm. Nirvana is his favorite band. One of his tattoos includes Jay Z lyrics.

#8 – Drake

5 – Drake’s career properly took off when Lil Wayne signed him to his own label, Young Money, in June 2009 and is now regarded as one of the kings of rap. He has won four Grammy Awards including the Grammy for Best Rap Album for “Take Care” in 2012 at the 55 th annual Grammy Awards. He also sold more rap artists than Jay-Z, Eminem, and Tupac. He is no surprise to be high on our list most-sold artists of all time.

Drake will undoubtedly continue climbing the ranks of our top 100. It is not clear if Drake’s musical talent or business acumen will make it possible. He has his own record label, OVO Sound, and his own fashion brand October’s Very Own. He also has numerous brand partnerships and launched Virginia Black whiskey. He is also the global ambassador for the NBA team in his hometown, Toronto Raptors.

Trivia: Drake began his public life in Canada as an actor on the renowned teen TV series “Degrassi”. This was thanks to his dad, who was an agent. In one episode of the show, you can see Jimmy Brooks, his character, rapping.

#7 – Pharrell

2 – Pharrell Williams got his break as part of the beat production duo The Neptunes, and then pushed it higher as the lead vocalist of N*E*R*D. His production skills led to him being the go-to beat maker for hip-hop and R&B artists for years as well.

He won ten Grammys for his work in the film, and his songs have been nominated for Academy Awards. He was even a coach for ‘The Voice’. He is now the CEO of i am OTHER, a record label and multi-media creative collective.

He has partnered with many international companies to create streetwear brands and sneakers, as well as jewelry, sunglasses, furniture pieces, sculptures, textiles and more. He is a hard worker.

Trivia: Esquire ranked Pharrell as the most dressed man in the entire world. He is an avid skateboarder and has a half-pipe in his home. He wrote the entire soundtrack to the animated film Despicable Me. He is one of 12 artists to simultaneously hold the #1 and 2nd spots on the Billboard Top 100.

#6 – Master Physicist

2 – Percy Miller made unbelievable amounts of money while his record label No Limit Records was owning the rap scene. He was able to launch a lot of stars during that period, striking while the iron was still hot and releasing ten times as many albums than in previous years. In the late 90’s, he signed Snoop Dogg to a three-album contract.

He was able to break into TV, movies, professional wrestling and travel. He did all this without ever winning any major music awards. He is the king of diversified income.

Trivia: Percy signed a contract to play in the 1999 preseason for the Charlotte Hornets as well as the Toronto Raptors. He did not graduate. He did play in minor leagues with success. His WCW stable, the No Limit Soldiers was run by him. There his crew fought The West Texas Rednecks. He was also featured in season 2 on Dancing with the Stars.

#5 – Eminem

1 – Marshall Mathers is another Dr. Dre protege that spawned his own record label, Shady Records, and launched his own set of superstars. He is the first rapper to win the Academy Award for Best Original Song.

Mathers is also an author. Mathers would be in a much higher place on this list if his investments were not solely music related. He also wouldn’t have been sued so many times. He is one of few people on the list who also features in the greatest rappers of all times.

Trivia: Eminem suffered a head injury when he was attacked by a bully at elementary school. The school was not liable for the lawsuit. His family sued but the judge dismissed the case. Schools are immune from lawsuits. Marshall wrote about his experience in “Brain Damage” and later his bully sued him for violating his privacy, and placing him in a bad light. This case was also dismissed by the judge, who delivered the verdict in rhyme form. Eminem was also sued by his mother for slander.

#4 – Dr. Dre

2 – Andre Young makes a fortune from lots of income streams, from countless royalties, launching proteges like Snoop Dogg, Xzibit, Eminem, and 50 Cent. He has only released two albums due to his focus on other superstars. He is also one of the best 10 producers in this game.

His early work with N.W.A. and Death Row Records and later his own label Aftermath Entertainment earned him enough fame and income to launch several ventures in the film industry, philanthropy and entrepreneurship. His drop in popularity is partially due to his recent divorce, which reportedly cost him more $100m.

Trivia: Dr. Dre founded Beats By Dre. They are easily the best headphones in terms sales and marketing. In fact, Apple bought the company in 2014 for $3 billion. Dre was able to launch this list almost at the top…

#3 – Diddy

Change +$80M – Sean Combs, a media mogul. Bad Boy Entertainment was the first to launch The Notorious B.I.G., an east coast music king. Mase and many other artists. He is not only one the most successful rappers in the world , but also one of the top 10 richest musicians worldwide .

His Sean John clothing line and perfume line have been huge successes. MTV’s reality TV series Making the Band was a huge success. He has appeared in a few movies and has invested in many businesses, including as the Ciroc brand ambassador. His music has won him many awards, including 12 Grammys.

Trivia: PuffDaddy is like many of the richest people on the planet (Bill Gates and Steve Jobs, Kanye West, etc.). Forbes ranked him among the top 40 entrepreneurs aged under 40 in 2002, despite having dropped his business degree.

#2 – Jay-Z

1 – Sean Carter has scored over 22 Grammys and sold over 100 million records. However, that’s only a small portion of the income he earns from his clothing label Rocawear and his record label Roc-A-Fella Records. He also invests in a variety of projects, including Tidal, Roc Nation Sports and Rocawear, where he is a licensed agent for sports.

He is the first rapper to be inducted in the Songwriters Hall of Fame. He currently holds the record for having 14 #1 albums on Billboard 200. He is now investing in smartphones, TV and movies.

Trivia: Jay Z was once president at Def Jam Recordings. Beyonce was his wife, and their combined wealth wasn’t enough to pay Notch, the Minecraft creator, for a Beverly Hills home. He is a part-owner in the Brooklyn Nets basketball club.

#1 – Kanye West

4 – Yeezy got his break with Jay-Z’s label, creating instrumentals for their albums. For his beats, he was sought-after by many of the top rappers. He was eventually allowed to release his first record, which was a massive success and launched his career as an all time top emcee.

He started GOOD Music, just like others. He has won 21 Grammys, making him one the most acclaimed artists of all-time. His clothing brand Yeezy has produced shoes and other merchandise for companies like Nike and Louis Vuitton. He has diversified into acting, architecture and design as well as politics and other fields.

Trivia: Kanye was married to Kim Kardashian, possibly the most famous reality TV star of all time. His jaw was broken in an accident. This is the story behind the song “Through the Wire”, which features his slurred vocals recorded while his jaw was closed.

Who has dropped out of the Top 10?

Some people reach the top 10, but not all. It is one thing to make money, but it is quite another to keep it. Here’s a list of fallen friends who lost their net worth or were replaced by new artists.

Snoop Dogg

1 – Snoop Doggy Dog, also known as Calvin Broadus, is another protege of Dr. Dre. After a lengthy stint with Death Row Records, he joined Master P’s No Limit Records. He never stopped moving to other labels, producing 16 albums solo and a few collaborative projects.

Later, he became an investor in several sticky icky businesses. Snoopify, his smartphone app, generates $30,000 per week! He has also appeared in many Hollywood movies, television shows, as well as video games.

Trivia: Calvin was nominated for 17 Grammys and inducted into The WWE Hall of Fame. He also has a star on Hollywood Walk of Fame. In 2018, he released his first gospel album, Bible of Love. Snoop Dogg was transformed into Snoop Lion in 2012 for a reggae documentary and album. Snoop was acquitted in 1993 of a terrible crime in a long-running and high-profile case.

6 – Edging out Lil Wayne (partially because he earns a portion of Birdman Jr.’s old recordings) is Bryan Williams, also known as Birdman. He is a co-founder and member of Big Tymers. He has also released four solo albums.

At the age of 9, he discovered Lil Wayne. Cash Money Records was a subsidiary of Master P’s No Limit Records. It owned the game for many years, earning Williams seemingly endless income streams. He continues to work alongside upcoming artists, bringing attention and staying relevant.

Trivia: Birdman, like 50 Cent, has been involved in endless legal disputes and beefs, but has managed to avoid going bankrupt. He co-founded Cash Money Records, an oil and gas exploration firm. The venture failed despite Bryan having a tattoo of an oil pump at his side. This tattoo has since been replaced by another.

50 Cents

Change: $120M Curtis Jackson’s debut studio album was a huge success after he was discovered by Eminem. This was in large part due to Dr. Dre instrumentals. The semi-biographical film Get Rich or Die trying was based on this record. This was the beginning of many Hollywood roles.

He started his own label G-Unit Records and began releasing group projects under the G-Unit name. His sixth album is in the works, and he has won numerous music awards for his previous albums.

Since then, he has been a successful entrepreneur and investor. He also started mining operations, flavored waters, and promoted boxing. After several bad investments and lawsuits that had runaway expenses, he filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 2015.

Trivia: Curtis once was shot at close range, one to his face. This gave him his distinctive vocal slur. After taxes, 50’s minority stake at Vitaminwater brought him $100 million.
