Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet consectetur pulvinar ligula augue quis venenatis.

It’s always interesting to check if the top 10 most successful musicians have changed or completely changed since the last year. It’s time to update the data for the year. These values and fluctuations are estimates based on many variables and publicly available information, but they have to be very close!

This concept is interesting because it proves two important things to ambitious and upcoming musicians.

  1. As a musician, it is possible to make a lot of money.
  2. You can increase your wealth and income by becoming an entrepreneur, or breaking into Broadway and Hollywood.

It is a struggle and many artists have to pay their bills but never make it into the mainstream. You can make the leap by becoming a marketer, just like the top 10 richest musicians…

#10 – Julio Iglesias

1- Julio is one of the top 10 record sellers in history, selling over 250 million albums worldwide. His awards are too many to list, as you can see. His first album, released in 1969, was followed by several more albums in the following years. The most recent one was released in 2017.

He has been named the most-popular artist in almost every country on earth. He has performed more than 5000 concerts, in addition to his album sales.

Trivia: Julio was once an experienced soccer player. He quit due to a car accident injury. His last name, “Iglesias”, means “churches”. He bulldozed his $28 million home and rebuilt it after failing to sell it.

#9 – Bono

1 – Bono is a strange one. Bono, the lead singer of U2, is clearly killing it. He promotes himself as the guy who doesn’t wear glasses but cares about environmental and social activism issues. Bono is boss. I can laugh all day, but it is the truth. He is a musician and singer, but he is also a venture capitalist and philanthropist.

His popularity is so great for the Irish people, and he’s unapologetically outspoken, that terrorist threats have been made against him. Bono, like many others on this list has been granted knighthood. How many dragons did you kill? He should be addressed as Paul David Hewson KBE OL.

Trivia Fact His name was found in the Paradise Papers. This document provided evidence and exposed wealthy individuals engaging in tax evasion worldwide.

#8 – Celine dion

2 – There’s no wonder that Ms. Dion is on the top 10 list. After selling more than 200 million records, she is Canada’s top-earning music artist. After her hit single on the Titanic soundtrack she took advantage and launched auto-tune, for better or worse, straight to the top ten!

She has both released albums in English and French, won numerous contests, and holds the record for having the longest concert residency. In Las Vegas, she can charge $500,000 per show. You can do the math with this information: She performed her 1000th Las Vegas show in 2016.

Trivia: Celine, the youngest of her 14 (yes! you did read it right!) siblings. For her contributions and civilian merits, she has been awarded Canadian and French titles. Her name is “Celine Dion CC OQ CHLD”.

#7 – Herb Alpert

3 – Hubert Alpert (and the Tijuana Brass band) have released five #1 albums and 28 total albums on the Billboard charts. Other notable awards include 9 Grammy’s and 14 Platinum certified albums. He also has 15 Gold albums.

He has sold more than 72 million records worldwide. Alpert, who is also the “A” in A&M Records has a lot to do with his incredible wealth. He sold it in 1987 along with Jerry Moss for $500 million. Later, they sued each other for breach of contract and received an additional $200 million. He also started a perfume line and professional sculpting.

Trivia: Herb Alpert was the only artist to reach #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in both 1968 as a vocalist and 1979 as an instrumentalist (trumpet).

#6 – Sean “Puffy” Combs

Change: +$80M & |1 – P. Diddy, A.K.A. Puff Daddy, Puffy, Diddy, Sean Combs, Sean John, etc. There are many more. This type of marketing keeps you relevant, no matter how silly it may seem. This master could be a model for us all, earning him the sixth place on the list. He operated Bad Boy Entertainment, his own label and recorded his own music.

This label helped launch the careers of men like The Notorious B.I.G. Mase. His Sean John clothing and perfume lines, as well as his hit TV show Making the Band, were some of his other successes.

Trivia Fact Like many rich people (Steve Jobs Bill Gates Kanye West etc. Puff Daddy was also a college dropout and left a business degree program. Forbes listed Diddy among the top 40 entrepreneurs under 40 in 2002.

#5 – Andrew Lloyd Webber

4 – You are now looking at the King. Although you may not be familiar with his name, you do know his music. Webber is almost synonymous to Broadway, having written the music for 20 of Broadway’s greatest hits, including The Phantom of the Opera and Jesus Christ Superstar.

These shows continue to be broadcast nightly around the globe (some of them have been running for more than a decade). He makes a lot of money from all aspects related to his products including soundtracks and merchandise as well as ticket sales. He also collects royalties for two songs he wrote, none other than Elvis Presley (the real King!).

Trivia: Andrew Lloyd Webber was awarded knighthood and the title of nobility in recognition of his contributions to music. He has received 6 Tony’s and 3 Grammy’s. There’s a lot more. He is best addressed today as “The Right Honourable The Lord Lloyd-Webber Kt.”

#4 – Paul McCartney

2 – There’s no way you wouldn’t find a member of The Beatles on this list, especially Paul McCartney. John Lennon and Paul McCartney shared the writing credit for their entire run, which ensured them both continued wealth. You can tag on Paul’s amazing solo career, the band Wings and his collaborations with Michael Jackson, most recently Kanye West. This is a man who has been a pop icon since the 1960’s.

The multi-instrumentalist has written or co-written 32 songs to reach #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Paul’s Yesterday song is the most-covered song ever, having been covered by more than 2,200 artists. Talk about royalties! He has been knighted and honoured in every way, whether it be musically or not. He is believed to have over 25,000 copyrights.

Trivia: Paul McCartney is twice recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the most renowned composer and performer of music, and the most successful songwriter.

#3 – Jay-Z

Change: +$300M – He’s not an entrepreneur, but a businessman. This is what happens when you win 19 Grammy’s and sell more than 100 million records. Their combined wealth exceeds 1 billion after Beyonce was married. Still, it wasn’t enough for them to beat Notch (creator and creator of Minecraft) for a house that was in competition.

It will only take a few more retirements and come backs for him to climb the ranks. Perhaps he can get one more come back cycle to make up the misstep with Aspiro and Tidal. Jay-Z has admitted to shooting his brother Jay-Z at 12 years old for stealing his jewelry. I’m not sure if this adds up to street cred or just the dumbness of being a child.

Trivia: Jay Z was once president of Def Jam Recordings. Jay-Z is also a licensed agent for sports, and works with his company Roc Nation Sports.

#2 – Rihanna

Change – She is the most successful female musician in the world and has risen steadily through our rankings over the last few years. Her business ventures account for a large portion of her wealth ($1.4B). Fenty Beauty, a line of beauty products she launched with the French luxury brand LVMH in 2017. Savage x Fenty is her lingerie business. Her huge social media following is a major asset to her brand promotion.

Don’t be fooled by her recent successes in business. Despite not having released an album for years, she has been a pop music star since 2005.

Trivia Fact Rihanna was born and raised in Barbados. She is still a celebrated artist in her home country. The Prime Minister of Barbados declared 22 Feb 2008 “Rihanna day”. Although it isn’t an official holiday, it is celebrated by locals every year and they listen to her music.

#1 – Ye (Kanye West)

Change +$1.5B – Another solid artist who has been helped by his extraordinary ability to launch hugely successful business ventures. Many collaborations with major brands such as Adidas and Louis Vuitton have helped his Yeezy brand generate large revenues. He also owns a part of Kim Kardashian’s brand Skims, a shapewear brand.

He is a producer and musician who has been critically acclaimed for over 20 years. He has received an incredible 24 Grammy Awards. He also started GOOD Music, his own record label. He is most well-known for his hip hop and rap songs, but he has also experimented with many other genres, including pop, gospel, and electro. Jay-Z is another hip-hop star he collaborates with.

Trivia Fact Kanye West is an icon around the globe, but he has also seen many music fans petition Change.org to block his attendance at festivals. This was the case for Glastonbury Festival in 2015.

Who has dropped out of the Top 10?

Some people lose their place in the list. It is one thing to make a lot of money, but it is quite another to keep it. Some artists fall from the top 10, whether they lose their momentum, fail to make the same investments in business as others, or blow their fortune. Here is a list of some of our fallen friends.

Dr. Dre

Change –$100M There is a lot of garbage out there trying to discredit the D.R.E. but the truth remains that he has had a profound impact on rap, music and American culture. Few people can claim that. He was a member N.W.A., Death Row Records, and he also operated his own label. He also launched many proteges including Snoop Dogg and Xzibit as well as Eminem and Kendrick Lamar.

Dr. Dre only has 2 albums under his name. He is a prolific beat producer and a compilation creator, as well as a guest star. He may be the most powerful musician to have created other stars. Dre, like many others, has had acting roles. However, it wasn’t one of his strengths.

He was a headliner at the Super Bowl LVI halftime concert with Kendrick Lamar and Snoop Dogg, along with other hip-hop artists Mary J. Blige and Eminem. If not for his recent, costly divorce, he would have been likely still in our top 10.

Trivia: Dre sold the best headphones company Beats by Dre to Apple, taking him up the ranks. It was a simple decision for Apple to spend $3 billion on marketing and products.

Change: $40M – This lady has been around for a while, producing pop hits since the 80s, and has seen all the ups, and downs that the industry has experienced over the years. She is a Golden Globe winner actress, fashion designer, owner and operator of Maverick Records as well as a host of health clubs.

Her tireless touring is what gives her real wealth. She has played more live shows than any other female artist, making her one of the most successful solo touring artists. She is perhaps the most hardworking woman in showbusiness.

Trivia: Madonna is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the greatest-selling female recording artist of all times. According to the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), she is the second-highest-certified female artist in America, after Barbara Streisand.

Mariah Carey

Mariah Carey was once a solid member our top 10. She is not likely to return there soon. She hasn’t made any big moves lately, and Glitter, her movie about glitter, was a disaster.

Her regular appearances at Christmas and New Years Eve celebrations are a part of her steady earnings. She holds the record of the longest-running U.S. #1 single for 16 consecutive weeks! She is also the third-best-selling female artist of all time in the U.S.

She is also the only artist to have reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100 Decade End chart more than once. There are many music awards she has received, including five Grammy’s and 19 World Music Awards as well as 14 Billboard Music Awards and more.

Trivia: Mariah carey is a rare vocalist with a clear five-octave range and controlled use of the whistle register.

Who will be next to claim the Wealthiest Musician Spot?

For someone to be able to replace someone on the list of top 10 most wealthy musicians, it will take serious power moves. The tycoons mentioned above have a lot of other jars than music. Get ready to hustle the next generation!

There are some potential contenders: Eminem and Justin Bieber. It can also work the other way. These TV and movie stars could invest in their music careers (like Drake), and boom! They’ll be able to become a billionaire.

Other contenders for the cut are:

  • Gloria Estafan at 500 million due to the Broadway play that is based on her life and film and TV appearances.
  • Elton John made $500 million through his constant touring, film scoring and documentaries about his life. He would be much richer if he hadn’t spent so much money.
  • Bruce Springsteen’s music rights are now worth $500 million, thanks to his huge deal with Sony Music.
  • Victoria Beckham, $450 million largely due to her fashion ventures.
  • Beyonce earns $440 million through her music, touring and clothing lines.
  • Barbra Strreisand is valued at $415 Million because of her high-grossing tours and Broadway appearances as well as TV specials.
  • Jennifer Lopez at $400 Million – her music success and distinguished Hollywood and TV career.
  • Jimmy Buffett has made $400 million through his massive tour and restaurant chain.
  • Taylor Swift’s music success and brand deals have brought her $400 million.
  • Dolly Parton is worth $350 million due to her live appearances and amusement parks.
  • Lady Gaga’s net worth is $350 million due to her music success and high-grossing tours.
  • Justin Bieber has been valued at $285 Million due to his immense musical success and business ventures.
  • Drake earns $250 million due to his solid music success.

Michael Jackson would have been in the top 10, if he hadn’t died so young, even though he was well-known for his debts. You know what? I would be content to be among the top 10,000 most wealth musicians.
